Developing High Performing Teams using the Team Management System (TMS)

The Team Management System is a set of instruments that provide comprehensive feedback reports on individuals and teams in order to enhance organisational performance. This system is internationally recognised and widely used within New Zealand organisations. TMS has a range of applications and is ideally suited to team development.

The Team Management System has been designed and developed by two of the world's most influential management consultants, Dr Charles Margerison and Dr Dick McCann.  Drawing on many years experience and working with thousands of managers world-wide, they have created sophisticated, yet practical, tools for personal, team and organisational development. In addition to the TMS profiles are two related instruments developed in New Zealand.

One of the key strengths of the Team Management System is that it is established firmly in the workplace: it is a series of instruments that has been developed with managers, for managers and will be delivered to your team by an accredited Paardekooper and Associates consultant.

Myers Briggs Type Indicator - MBTI®

Are you interesdted in mapping the personality dynamics of your project or work team? The MBTI is a well established personality inventory that is fun and affirming for your team. It builds insight into different ways of working and relating and promotes appreciation of these differences. Your team will explore questions such as:

  • What energises me? e.g: Do I like to think things through or talk things out? Do I prefer to have a breadth of knowledge or depth of knowledge in a few areas? How do I react under stress?
  • What kinds of information do I love to focus on? e.g: Am I future focused or do I focus on what is known and experienced? What value do I place on tradition or innovation? How do I approach the big picture or deal with the detail?
  • What do I draw on when I make decisions? e.g: Is my motivation focused on personal values and relationship building or logic and rationale? Is my decision-making style subjective or objective? How do I approach conflict situations? How inclusive is my style? Am I decisive or a procrasinator?
  • How do I approach life and work? e.g: Am I a deadline demon? What is my planning style? What value to I place on structure and systems? Do I prefer to multi-task or approach things more lineally?

The MBTI is widely used in the areas of individual and team development. Over 40 years of research and development have demonstrated the reliability and validity of the MBTI. The MBTI produces 16 different personality types, each with its own characteristics and strengths. There are no right or wrong answers on the Indicator and no assumed "right" way to be. The MBTI helps you clarify what your preferences are but does not "box you" into a pre-determined set of behaviours.

Skillfully applied, the MBTI is a powerful tool for developing individuals and teams. It accentuates the positive and promotes balance in personal and team development.
